Summer 2016 Cider List

Cider List

Of course we had a great selection of local ciders for our apple lovers.

Cider Maker
The Cider
Tasting Notes
Orchard Pig
A deliciously refreshing cider with a Maverick bite… real West Country Cider apples partnered up with a taste of the exotic. An initial nose into the glass reveals the scrumptious mix of citrus and orchard apple. Sweet ginger and honey layers saddle up to the fruit in the first sip, whilst the sneaky chilli moseys along shortly to set your trotters tingling
Bridge Farm Cider
Award winning Cider from East Chinock continuing to show at The Great Dorset Steam Fair
Mole's Brewery
Black Rat is a dry, award winning, premium English cider. Unpasteurised, maintaining the apple's full flavour, Black Rat Cider has a fresh apple aroma, a smooth taste, a crisp clean finish with a bright and lightly sparkling appearance
Thatchers Cider
A refreshing cider with a smooth appley taste.
Rich golden haze with a strong apple aroma and a robust full flavour. This is a mellow, naturally hazy, smooth cider produced from a blend of bittersweet apples including Dabinett and Somerset Redstreak.
Beer Festival 2016 Beer List

You said it...

A proper pub!

The friendliest pub I've been to in a long time! The staff were delightful, continually smiling and chatty. The food was good. Nothing fancy, but a decent meal. The stove had been lit, so it was lovely and warm. It had a very cosy feel to it, which was lovely on a cold autumn evening. Feel like we've discovered a gem, and am almost reluctant to tell too many people about it, in case it changes!

New Bed & Breakfast Accomodation

We have 2 double rooms, each with their own en-suite.

The Mitre Inn at Sandford Orcas

Cheryl and Allen welcome you to the Mitre Inn at Sandford Orcas in North-West Dorset to which they have just purchased the freehold.

The Mitre Inn is now a FREE HOUSE. Watch this space for the changes they intend to make - certainly to the choice of beers and ciders.

Built in 1851 this pub has kept its rustic charm - with flag stone floors throughout, cosy log burners warm this stone built property in the winter and great views from the terraced garden across the valley in the summer.

The Mitre Inn is a modest hostelry with an emphasis on enjoyment, good local food, much from our own local garden, traditionally cooked food, with some unusual twists. We have three real ales on hand pump which come mainly from the West Country, although brews from the east coast Kent and Yorkshire do make appearances. We have comfortable seating aside the bar or more formal seating in our dining room, which can be reserved for private functions, seating approximately 40. Occasional theme nights are arranged throughout the year as are open mic nights - further details in the What's On section. We have a lovely garden to relax in and enjoy the peace and country views.

With Autumn sneeking up we will be lighting the wood burners where you can warm your toes and snuggle up in great company..

This is a Dog Friendly Inn

We have two dogs in-house - Finlay is joined by his daughter, Freya. Yes, she really is his daughter - Finlay has a very friendly relationship with Molly, a black labrador, which resulted in a gorgeous litter of black and gold goldadores! We welcome well behaved visiting dogs if they keep their owners under control too. A watering point can always be found at the front door and in the garden.

Family Friendly Garden

Our popular garden is elevated and sits out front just above the car-park. There are 2 tables down at ground level for people with restricted mobility - but make it to the top of the garden and you are blessed with fabulous views of the surrounding countryside. You will also find The Mitre's vegetable patch up here!
